AMAZING CUCUMBER

This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago as part of their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and fanciful ways to solve common problems.

    1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

   2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber.  Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

  3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower?  Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.
  4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds?  Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long.  The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.

5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool?  Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite.  Works great on wrinkles too!!!

  6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache?  Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free.  Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!

  7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge?  Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.

8. Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes?  Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.

9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge?  Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa?  Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water; the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown to reduce stress in new mothers, and in college students during final exams..

11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints?  Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

  12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel?  Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean; not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but it won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.

13. Using a pen and made a mistake?  Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

Deodorant: An Underarm Mess!

I'll be the first to admit that I can be a little smelly after a sweaty bout with my running shoes or a long day of work, however, the slight smell might just be a lot better than the craziness of wearing just any old deodorant off the shelf!

Growing up with a very health conscious mom, I was always told to "pick out the deodorant without aluminum in it."

-"Okay, okay, Moooom, whatever."
Turns out though, she's right! (Yes, she's going to love that!)

It looks like these 7 nasty ingredients are meant to be avoided at ALL costs when making your purchase if for no other reason than because they can cause all sorts of dis-eases in your body.

Disease doesn't just happen. It's not something that some people are cursed with and others aren't. It happens for a biological reason. Something isn't right in the body when a dis-ease appears. What is the root cause of it? Where is it coming from? Sometimes simple everyday habits like slathering on deodorant or painting our faces with makeup are overlooked as a possible cause for discomfort or disease.  But, no worries dearest...a few solutions await you!

Most days I don't wear deodorant, but I'm not necessarily suggesting that for your life. If I do, I wear Tom's Natural Products which works surprising-ly awesome-ly.  When I started using them years ago as a track athlete, I argued my mom because I refused to be the girl everyone kept a safe 50' from. But...their products worked so well, much to my pleasure, that I only had to apply it once in the morning and it worked throughout the whole day!

Just thought I would share...I've always dreamed of having friends with the happiest of underarms;-)

If you know of other products that work well and that you love...let me know!

Shakin' Things Up

Happy February 1st Sunshine!

Right now as we speak, I'm munching on an avocado with a little cayenne pepper sprinkled on top. YUM! (Oh, and it's the easiest lunch ever!)

So, It's time to shake-it-up!!

January felt like a trial month on RAW. I jumped into it, knowing a little and guessing a lot.  I didn't eat raw 3 times this month...which...is okay with me. At another time in my life that was other than the best ever, I might have "Fallen off" & neglected to "Get Back On" but not with you by my side...thank you!

January was a huge month for me with tons of emotions & personal things to deal with.

A lot of my goals went untouched because of these things I had to tend to. And that's perfect because I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. It was just as it should be.
But THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANT FOR FEBRUARY!

This month, the month of loooove is going to be different! So, even if there are one million and two things that happen that I didn't plan on, my goals still get accomplished & I am still able to support every single thing that demands attention in my life.  So...here are

5 lovely Things I'm Making
A Point to Do Differently:
1. Read my goals out loooooud to myself every single morning with excitement, energy & enthusiasm!!!

1a. ;-) Seek Inspiration to accomplish these...everywhere! Thank you Jim for the rev-it-up music for today...starting at 50 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8zlUUrFK-M

2. Meditate & exercise EVERY SINGLE DAY. Even if each happens for only 5 minutes.

3. Eat more food & drink more juice

4. Set a detailed timeline of dreams with deadlines & accomplish them, step by step (Starting with one of Tim Farris's principles from The Four Hour Work Week: Just do 3 big things each day and then quit.)

5. Buy & prepare food for myself EVERY Sunday (which I have already started this week!)
I prepared this soup & it's amazing minus the garlic OR the cayenne pepper... using BOTH make it pretty spicy:

Cream of Spinach Soup
Jennifer Cornbleet’s Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People

Serves 2

½ head spinach leaves, washed
½ cucumber, peeled
1 tomato, in wedges
¼ cup water
1 avocado
1 clove garlic
2 tablespoons nama shoyu or soy sauce
½ teaspoon sea salt
dash cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Adjust seasonings to taste.

I would have probably never tried this next one if it wasn't for a friend's recommendation. (Thanks Damzlfly!) So light, and the touch of mint, ginger and cardamom in the background is sublime!
